The Palacio de Festivales of Santander on May 23, 2010 hosted the PAX URBIS Awards gala, an international reward that emphasizes the policies in favor of peace and harmony. The mayors of Oviedo, Gabino de Lorenzo, and Santander, Iñigo de la Serna, rose proud to the stage of the biggest room of the Palace to gather the award and to renew publicly their commitment towards those less fortunate.
100 Cities for the Peace has awarded the Cantabrian capital, which designated Oviedo as auxiliary related city. In addition, the delivery of the prize served in order that both cities, rivals in the race for the title of capital of the European culture in 2016, promised to nominate the other one in case one of the two was finally seleted.
